City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1), by Cassandra Clare

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And today I am going to be starting what will be a long week of reviews, for non other than the Mortal Instruments series!
So let's get on to the review!

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1), by Cassandra Clare
So before you leave this post because I haven't read the Mortal Instruments series, they just didn't seem that interesting. Also, I tried City of Bones when I was in like Year 7/8 (aged 12-13) and I just didn't like it. But on my 2016 resolutions , I said I'd give it another try and that's what I'm doing!
So, here are the stats:
Title: City of Bones
Author: Cassandra Clare
Genre: Action & Fantasy
Release date: 27th March, 2007
Pages: 485
Blurb: "When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know... "

My Thoughts
I really wish I'd read the book before I saw the film in this case, particularly because of something that happened in the end (all those that have either seen the film/ read the book/ done both know what I'm talking about), but mainly after having done both, I wish someone had told me that I wasn't missing anything if I didn't read the book and to be honest, I just wish I could have got back the time that it took me to finish the book so I could have gotten farther in the series (especially as I read this book during the read-a-thon).

Saying that, there were some good points: I liked some of the characters: Jace, Simon, Magnus particularly :D. There's just no character like him, anywhere really. That sass, omg! Also, Simon's bow and arrow shot, wow! Loved him then!

On the other hand, I may or may not be popular in this opinion, but Isabelle kind of annoyed me, as did Clary for most of it. Isabelle just seemed shallow and show-offy, if that's a word, don't think it is, but I'm going with it. And Clary just ran away a lot. I mean, I get that you just figured out this whole world exists that your mum has been shielding you from for the past 15 years, but you should adapt at some point. Or maybe your acting completely okay, and I'm just being annoying. That's cool.

The plot was fast paced really, and the ending would have been incredible had I not seen the film first, but that's just how it turned out.
So overall, it was okay. There were some good points and bad points, and had I been told that there was basically no difference between the book and the film, I probably would have skipped this one and gone straight to the next one.
But I did enjoy it, and on that note, I'm going to end it there.
So, bye!
Oh! Also, my next post (Wednesday) will be City of Ashes, (which in my opinion is so much better), so bye! (Take two).
