October Wrap Up (2017)

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And I'm sorry it's been so long! Really.
Last week was just so crazy!
But, it's calmed down a bit now, finally.
And I have some time to write on here!

So, here's my October Wrap Up (2017)!

BOOKS
So, this month I did okay, but nowhere near as good as last month. I read a total of four books, one of which was a re-read, but I am still on track to reach my *new* Goodreads goal of 80 books.
Here are the books that I read this month:

1. The Chemist, by Stephenie Meyer
With this, the pacing was kind of crazy. I'm not going to say it was all over the place, because it wasn't. But, it took a while to get into it. Also, you need to go into this book with the mind-set to concentrate, because it'll take forever to get through this book if you don't. At least, that's what it was like for me. Let me get this straight, I did enjoy it , Stephenie truly did surprise about how good she'd got, but there was something stopping me from giving it 5 stars, which I think is the pacing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who does enjoy spy, scientific with guns and explosions.

2. The Infinite Sea, by Rick Yansey
3. The Last Star, by Rick Yansey
...How do I begin to explain these two? Did I love them? No. But were they a solid two part to the end of the trilogy. Yes. Some parts were slow as death, and by that I mean very. But other parts were like meh. And then some parts were just... crazy good. It ended differently to how I thought it would, and even though it wasn't the best way to end the trilogy in my opinion, it is only my opinion and I am satisfied with how it all wrapped up. Do I recommend it? To the right reader, this has the potential to be one of their favourite trilogy's. But to the majority, I think they'd be a bit more picky.

4. My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult (Re-read)
I'm pretty confident I have a review somewhere on my blog. If not, this is one of my favourites and it had been a while since I've read it. You should read it.
End of description.
Also, there's a film for this. It's about a girl called Anna, who is suing her parents for the rights of her own body. Basically, she was created in a dish to save her sister, who has leukaemia. She is a perfectly matched donor, and she's had enough. Now, what I love about this book is you get the whole family's perspective. I love it. As I said before, it is one of my absolute favourites.

OTHERS
So, just because this month has been so, so hectic with college and rehearsals, I have had zero chance of writing.
As for watching...

Dance Academy
I'm legit watching Dance Academy as I work on this now. I got the urge to re-watch it again!
Don't judge me...

So that is my October Wrap Up (2017)!
I hope you enjoyed it, and if you have any thoughts about t-shows, or books, or...
If you're competing in NaNoWriMo, let me know!
I hope you have a wonderful day, and I will see you all on Wednesday!
Okay, byeee!

How To Read More

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And even though I never claimed to be an expert on how to read more, I thought- why not do a tutorial on something I like to read myself...
how other people read so much!
I hope you enjoy the post!

Top Tip #1: Carry a book around with you-everywhere
Even though other people may find it annoying when you slip a book into your bag everywhere you go- it has been proven that if you take a book with you, you are more likely to pick it up and read it! And even though it might not make a huge amount of difference, it will spark your interest to hopefully continue the book at home.

Top Tip #2: Prioritize reading
This is actually really really hard! If you ever feel like watching Netflix, pick up a book. If you want to watch a film (unless it's like the Hunger Games etc haha), pick up a book. It's hard, and it may risk you losing interest in the book altogether, but if it doesn't, it should make picking up a book and reading automatic. And soon you'll be doing it without even knowing it!

Top Tip #3: Juggle multiple books
Now, this option isn't for everyone. Personally, I just get confused, and it just takes too long to finish, especially if I have to keep track of two completely different plots and character arcs. But if you can juggle twice as many books, you can finish twice as many. Which means that you'll get to read and meet twice as many stories and worlds, which is great!

Top Tip #4: Carve out a specific time to read
This is especially handy if you have a typically busy day. Maybe getting up an hour earlier, or going to bed a little bit earlier so you can read before you fall asleep can really be helpful if you want to read just that little bit more. And each night or morning you do it, that's another productive reading time that you've managed. And if you can stick to it- even better!

Top Tip #5: Get excited to read- do whatever you need to do!
Whether that's going on YouTube and watching a video about books, looking up your favourite blogger's latest post, or listening to a song, or whatever, try to do whatever so you become excited about reading!
If reading feels like a chore, there's no way your going to feel inspired to pick up a book and read! So you talk to a reader friend! You read a book post! Just get excited!

So that was my "How To Read More" Tutorial! I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you all on Wednesday!
Byeeee!

#SpookyQuilling Entry 2: Prompt 3

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And this is my second entry (Prompt 3) for the #SpookyQuilling // A writing meme for those that love blood, gore and the undead by Savannah @The Book Prophet!

Here's the prompt that matches this story, I hope you like it!
"Prompt 3 – October 17:
Put together a narrative of survival. This can be anything from surviving from a kidnapping or even surviving oneself. Use your creativity in this one. You’ll need to rely on who your character(s) are and how they deal with the circumstances you put them in."

Here's the story:

"They’re after me. Left, right, up above. I’m surrounded.
Think, think. What do I do?
I scan the area. I’m in a corridor, stretching out in front of me as far as I can see. Which isn’t much considering the tear gas they used the minute they figured out what we were doing here.
They’re right behind me, I can feel it. I need to run, get away, before they do to me what they did to the rest of us.
I feel the hairs stand up on my neck at the thought.
Cort’s voice rings in my head, The time is right. We’ll strike, take what we need and then, be out of here before they know what’s hit them.
We thought it would be true.
That’s not what happened.
I close my eyes, a brief second of grief for those that we have lost along the way. Header, Yatu, Slath.
I don’t think about their end, but the laughter and drinks we shared, bonding over a shared enemy.

And then I’m off, leaving my memory of them behind.
Get your head in the game, Nate. Or this will all be for nothing.
I run down the corridor, trying to keep the level of panic down to a minimum. Running on the balls of my feet, I’m trying to find something, anything, for whatever the hell I might need it for.

Finally, I come to the end of the corridor. Grasping the corner wall, I peer back the way I came. Nothing.
Nothing, really? I could have sworn they were right on top of me, just a mere moment ago. Could they really have lost interest so quickly, or are they just leading me into a trap?
What the hell have you led us into Cort?!

I hear gunshots in the distance. Can’t tell what sort just from the noise, and I can’t tell if it’s from two sides, or if some poor person is being butchered.
Should I retreat or go and investigate.
I make a decision. Cursing myself for being the compassionate one, I run towards the sounds of gunshot, running the months and years of battlefield training through my head as I go.
Keep your head down, be smart, stand with your back to the wall, eyes wide open. Relax the muscles in your arms. If they’re stiff, you’ll hit a lucky shot, where you would have hit ten otherwise. Then he’d smack my head. RELAX YOUR ARMS. Take a deep breath when you shoot, it makes you concentrate just enough to get that head shot when you can. And sometimes, when’s it going tits up, that tiny bit of extra concentration can be the only thing saves you.
Thanks, Cort.

The gunshots are near. Just around the next corner. Taking a second my calm myself, I take a peek. Be smart. Don’t go running straight in before you get a good idea of what’s going on.
Quick and agile, I take a second glance.
And I see the last thing I expected to see. I’m so surprised that I almost lose my footing.
It’s Marcus, the last remaining member of our squad. And more than that, we were in the same class at training. He’s got a pistol in his hand, so small yet so powerful, like an extension of his hand. I remember he used to favour this gun in training, and I smile at the memory.
I thought he was dead.
Shaking my head, I try to focus. God sake Nate, get your head in the game- and keep it that way.
I run my fingers over my body armour. Gas in one pocket, explosives in another. For a last resort.
I draw my own pistol, check the bullets. 7 left. How many are there to shoot at?
Okay, 9. And with the two of us, hopefully I won’t run out. Hopefully.
I scan the scene. There are enough places for me to hide out so I can get a good vantage point at each of them. Gritting my teeth, I launch myself into the room of gunshot and yelling.
I take out, one two. Aim for the head, the heart if you get the chance.
Marcus hasn’t seen me yet. I risk a quick glance at him. He’s protected behind a desk. His head pops out, he shoots, then back to position. Polished and clean. He’s got that familiar crease between his eyebrows, the one that means he’s concentrating.
Head down, Nate. Come on.
And then, suddenly the bullets are flying in my direction too. God, they’ve spotted me.

When they’re all dead, I wait, unsure of what to do next.
Until I’m eye to eye with Marcus.
And then we’re a metre apart, Marcus having jumped the minute I reacted.
We lock eyes, neither of us wanting to make the first move.
And then I flash a smile of relief, and he does too.
And then we’re hugging, just out of relief and comfort.
And then I hear the words: “Come on, I’ve got something to tell you about this place.”
And I follow him out of the corpse infested room.

We sit down on the boxes. We’re in a storeroom, which I’m surprised to discover looks completely normal, like we weren’t just in a shoot-out only a minute ago.
“So, what did you find out? What’s with all this?”
“Okay, here’s what I got. They’re fighting us because they discovered something… twisted about the program.”
“What? That’s absurd.”
“It isn’t. I don’t know all of it, but apparently there’s something… that controls your brain. It looks like you’re acting this way, but it isn’t. And it slowly drives you insane.”
I can’t quite comprehend this. “But… there are security measures that ensure that that doesn’t happen. Isn’t there?” I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this.
“I don’t know, but that’s what they thought we were planning to do.”
Then something occurs to me. “But how did you find out all this so quickly?” We all got separated so quickly, I don’t know how he could’ve.
“I got separated from you guys, and I was trying to find my way back, and then I heard some voices, and with my telecom, I listened in. They saw me before I could escape and that’s when you found me. Simple.”
One nod in reply. “Okay… so say I believe you. Where’s the proof?”
He looks around, even though there’s only us in here. His body language says, nervous. Why is he nervous?
“Okay, fine I’ll show you. Do you trust me?” His question hangs in the air, begging to be answered.
Slowly, I open my mouth. “Yes.”
“Follow me.”

* * *

“Stealth.” He whispers into my ear. I nod my head once to show it’s understood.
Walk on tiptoes. Like you’re walking on air, Cort said to me once.
“Just down this corridor, third door on the right.” After looking around, I think: Why are all the corridors the same?
And we’re off.

I put the safety back on my gun and push it back into my armour.
Scanning the room quickly, I see a bed, a wardrobe, and a computer.
Marcus sits down and starts to type. I pop myself down on the bed.
“Now, I found out here. Look.”
I learn into the screen of the computer and see.
MIND CONTROL. SEVER TIES. ELIMINATE TARGETS.
A brain. He clicks to another screen. Then another and another.
It all looks like jumble at first. I don’t know about science-y stuff, I was a soldier first and foremost.
But I can see what he means. It would be pretty hard to face this cold evidence.
“Wait here. I’ve got to get something.” And he leaps up, quick as a leopard. He’s gone.
I lean further towards the camera screen, eager for more details to take back later.
And then I see something in the corner of the screen. A message. I click it.
And I see Marcus’ profile.
He’s one of them.
Click, click, click. Things that don’t make sense. He said he’d eavesdropped, not on a computer. The computer was already on.
We didn’t encounter anybody on the way here. Where he got his favourite gun when we ran out of that model months ago.
Was it all a setup?

I’m jolted out of my thoughts as I feel the gun pressed against my temple.
“Don’t. Move.” His voice is hard as steel.
“Okay. But just answer me one thing. Why?”
“Why? Because it pays to be on the winning side.”
“But why make all of this up?” I can’t help asking.
“Mind control. Taking over the world. And I’ll live forever. Say goodbye, Nate.”

And the last thing I feel is the impact of the bullet hitting my brain."

So that is my entry! I hope you enjoyed the story, let me know in the comments if you enjoyed it, or any writing tips that you think could help, either's good, as I do enjoy writing!

Finally Fall Book Tag

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And even though we, here in England call Fall Autumn, this is what the tag is called, which is why it's the title for the tag!
So, on to the tag!

To be honest, I am so glad that it is finally autumn, because I can wear my boots, you wake up to those days when it's crispy and cold, but still beautiful, and there's people drinking spiced latte and hot chocolate everywhere.
And don't forget all the great book releases!
But, on to the tag!

1. In fall, the air is crisp and clear: name a book with a vivid setting.
I think I'm going to choose Glass Sword, by Victoria Aveyard for this one, just because we get to see a bit of the world outside the story in the first book, and even when it's all in ruins, it's still super easy to picture the world for the story.

2. Nature is beautiful... but also dying: name a book that is beautifully written, but also deals with a heavy book like loss or grief
This is the first book that came to mind when I saw this category. And beautifully written, but with a heavy subject matter is the perfect way to describe this book. I flew through this, and even though it didn't exactly live up to the hype, I still really loved the characters, and especially Griffin's journey as he struggles to live his own life in a world without Theo.

3. Fall is back to school season: share a non-fiction book that taught you something new
I really don't read non-fiction books, so I'm not going to choose one. But if you have a non-fiction book that taught you a lot, let me know in the comments and I might pick it up!

4. In order to keep warm, it's good to spend some time with the people we love: name a fictional family/household/friend-group that you'd like to be part of.
Now, normally I'd go for the easy choice and pick the Weasleys, because they are the ultimate loving family, but I think I'm going to go with Scarlett and Silas (and Rosie) from Sisters Red, the first book in the Fairytale Retellings series, by Jackson Pearce.
Even though they are their own people, I know that Scarlett and Silas have eachother's backs, no matter what, and they prove it in this instalment. And Rosie completes that group, they are all at the their best when this trio is together, and the fact that they all have their own strengths in the group is what elevates their speed, their power and strength as a trio, and they are one of the main reasons why I love this series so much!

5. The colourful leaves are pilling on the ground: show us a pile of fall coloured spines!
Not the best picture, but I tried to get the colours to match the leaves changing colour. The subject has nothing to do with this, it's just purely for the cover. This isn't the biggest picture, especially as I don't have that many books that look like the leaves do in autumn. But hopefully you guys like and appreciate it!

6. Fall is the perfect time for some storytelling by the fireside: share a book wherein somebody is telling a story.

And who's telling the story? Death. I don't know why this story creeped into my head, because it's only really a part storyteller. It's more of like a character's perspective inside of a story. We get to see the story of a character, inside like the over-all story. So this is the book that I chose. (And also because I love this story, and I might re-read it next year).

7. The nights are getting darker: share a dark, creepy read.
I think I'm going to choose Aaru for this one. This book isn't the creepiest, like it isn't the classic horror book, but there is a twisty and dark undertone of maybe this isn't quite real, and if it, how is it possible. Plus the ending has one the darkest, most creepiest scenes I've read in a long time. So, if you think you can stomach it, pick this one up for Halloween.

8. The days are getting colder: name a short, heart-warming read that could warm up somebody's cold and rainy day.
It's been a while since I've read this, but I know that even though it's sad, it's also so heart-warming, and definitely teaches you to not take anything for granted, and to cherish the people around you. This is a story of love, and loss, and even though I read this a couple of years ago, it remains one of my favourite contemporaries ever.

9. Fall returns every year: name an old favourite that you'd like to return to soon.
MIND GAMES. I read this last year, and I actually think that this is maybe my favourite Teri Terry book! It is by far my favourite Sci-fi book, and put in Teri Terry's ability to tell an amazing story, and create a unique world, and you have Mind Games. This world takes place in a virtual world. The people live in a world where they are constantly online, but they aren't aware that they are, and that's used in the plot so well, that I can't help but love it.

10. Fall is the perfect time for cozy reading nights: share your favourite cozy reading 'accessories'.
  • Headphones (though that's really, all year long)
  • Hot chocolate (or pumpkin spiced latte)
That's it really!

11. Spread the autumn appreciation and tag some people!
Norees @ NoReadsTooGreat
Cassie @ Cassie Winters
Katie @ ReadWithKaty

So that is the Finally Fall Book Tag! I hope you enjoyed it, and even if you aren't tagged, feel free to take part!
So that is all I have for you today! I hope you have a wonderful day, and I will see you all on Wednesday, when I will post my second entry of the Spooky meme, by The Book Prophet!

Warcross (Warcross #1), by Marie Lu

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And I read this book a while ago, but I still want to post a review because it's new and exciting, and I have a lot of thoughts on it!
Also It's been a while since I posted a review and this seems like the perfect fit.

It's Warcross
(Which you can see from the title).
Enjoy!

Title: Warcross
Author: Marie Lu
Genre: Sci-fi
Release date: 12th September, 2017
Status: Book 1/3??? in trilogy
Pages: 353
Blurb: "FOR THE MILLIONS WHO LOG IN
EVERY DAY, WARCROSS ISN'T JUST
A GAME- IT'S A WAY OF LIFE.

Teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty
hunter, tracking down Warcross players who bet
on the game illegally. But the bounty-hunting world
is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy.
Struggling to make ends meet, Emika takes a risk
and hacks into the opening game of the Warcross
Championships- accidentally glitching herself into
the action.

Now an overnight sensation, Emika is whisked off
to Tokyo to meet the game's creator, the elusive
young billionaire Hideo Tanaka. He needs a spy in
this year's tournament to help uncover a security
problem... and he wants Emika for the job.

Thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she's
only dreamed of, Emika's investigation soon uncovers
a sinister plot, which could shatter the entire
Warcross empire."

My Thoughts
When I first head about this book, I was a bit... meh about the whole thing, to be honest. I had enjoyed the Legend trilogy, but from what I knew it just seemed like any videogame sci-fi book.
But then, after hearing about all the people reading and raving about this book, I decided to pick it up.
And... it was pretty amazing, I have to admit!

First things first, the visuals: it was all too easy to see the scene and the world spread out before you, a world that you wish you could live in, but is only a figment of your imagination. It was so, so easy to see the rat-ridded slums of New York, and with that, it was easy to visualise and picture the life that Lu had created for our protagonist, Emika.
But I'll get to that in a minute.
And then she makes the journey to Japan, and all of that changes.
This world is a lot more advanced than ours when it comes to technology, but it is no less easier to picture all of this, even though none of it exists!
The world was just so graphic, so (not realistic, but also realistic), Like it seemed surreal, just because the technology is the world. It's the whole world!
And the best part is how insanely possible this type of world might be not too soon from now1
Which you'll see what I mean when you read it!

Warcross. The game.
Primarily, it's capture the flag.
But with each new round, one team goes up against another, the world changes. You put on the glasses that Hideo created, and you're able to see in it, live in it. And the glasses create the world as well. There are things you can throw, which could potentially hinder the other team. For the teams, everybody has a job. And one thing I liked about Emika's team was that they weren't just a team for Warcross, but they were there for each-other in real-life as well, which I didn't really get from the other team.
And they played Mariokart! That was just the icing on top of the cake.

On to the characters.
Throughout the story we follow Emika Chen- bounty hunter. She finds people who are using Warcross illegally. And it gets her by, but every penny is tight.
One thing that I liked about Emika was that even though her character had an arc, a journey, character development, her personality never changed. She's always consistent, like she stays focused on the task at all times, which is something that I like about her. Also, she has RAINBOW HAIR.
And she's in kind of a desperate situation, but before she knows it, she is being contacted by none other than the creator of this big ginormous Warcross game- Hideo Tanaka, and she's on her way to Tokyo to work for him.

Now, Hideo is an interesting character. He seems almost not real- just because how successful he is, mixed with the spine-tingling thing that there's something not quite right (that I got from the get go, let me just say.) Hideo, the genius boy that invented virtual glasses at the age of thirteen, is now, at the age of twenty, like the boss of everything. And he wants Emika for a job.

One word to describe the relationship between these two: Conflicting.
I can't even describe it.
There aren't words!
I'm literally tripping over them.
Just, there's the business, the job that Hideo hired Emika for, and then there's their own personal relationship.
Just read it, and you'll understand.

So overall, this was an amazing read and I cannot wait for the sequel!
This is definitely one of my favourite reads for 2017.
(There's getting to be a lot of those...)

:)

So that is all I have for you today!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will see you all on Monday!
Byeeee!

TBR Jar (2018)

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And even though it may be a bit too early, considering it's only just October, but I want to talk about something that I'm going to attempt in 2018.

I have to admit, it is a TBR jar, but it isn't anything specific really.
It isn't like specific books, and I pick one every month.
To be honest, I don't really have an annual time to pick one.

It's basically all the things I want to read next year.
Some of them are authors, others are a specific duology or trilogy.
There aren't quite twelve yet, I'm thinking at the moment that I'll maybe try to accomplish 6-8, because although there are a few that come to mind immediately, there won't be a point otherwise.

Here are the tasks that I've thought of so far:

1. A Stephen King book
At this point, I really don't care what Stephen King book, I just need to read one. It might be Carrie, or It, but I definitely need to read one that was produced by him.

2. The Savage Song duology, by Victoria Schwab
Katytastic's 24 hour readathon vlog is what got me invested in the need to read this duology. Also the thousand amazing reviews about all of her books.
This needs to happen sometime next year.

3. Read something GRAPHIC NOVEL/MAGNA
I need to get into more comics/graphic novels-ish. Maybe Saga, maybe Nimona, or We Are Okay. Whatever, I want to get into something in this section of books. Because I feel like an outsider. And I want to love it. I do.

4. Without You, by Colleen Hoover
Okay, I know. This is out like now. But... I think I'm going to wait for the Paperback. I've bought too many hardbacks recently. And I need to stop, else it'll become a problem.
But this, I don't know, maybe I'll cave... After Christmas... maybe.

5. THE TRIALS OF APOLLO trilogy, by Rick Riordan
THE ANTICIPATION IS REAL WITH THIS TRILOGY...
I don't know why, just no reason whatsoever!
Might be the covers... I don't know...
But everybody has been raving about this trilogy, so I thought I might give it a try!
Let me know in the comments if you have enjoyed this trilogy!

Those are kind of all the ones that I have so far!
I'll try and think of some more but those are the main ones for now.
Let me know if you think of any (that you think I might like).

So that is all I have for you today, I hope you have a wonderful day (or what's left of it for those of us in the UK)!
I will see you all on Wednesday!
Goodbye!

#SpookyQuilling Entry 1: Prompt 1

Hey guys, this is Abi here,
And here is my first entry for the Spooky Quilling // A writing meme for those that love blood gore and the undead by Savannah @ The Book Prophet!
Please don't judge me for going to creepy, I can't help it!
You've been warned!
...Here it is!
(And I did manage 666 words!)

Oh, here's the prompt, as promised:
"For this prompt you have to write a spooky story about how the villain of a story – a story already in existence or of your own imagination – became the villain. This has to be 666 words (I know it’s hard but try and get it exact – you never know, it may bring you good luck)."

“The wind blows, I slide my hands into my pockets.
I hear a shrill echo of a scream, just a short distance away. Music to my ears.
It’s time. With a menacing glistening of teeth, I gave chase, my silent feet in time with my heartbeat. I could chase like this for hours.

It’s night, my favourite time of the day. More cover, less people. A lot more discrete. You can almost hear the crying of babies, the shuffling of wandering feet, lost, scared.

Shadows cover every facet of the street, buildings tall and daunting, just that little bit alive and crowded in the day, silent and wind-swept in the black night. There are the streetlights, but only give off a faint glimmer. I catch sight of my victim as she turns down an alley out of town. Perfect.

It’s pitch black. So dark I can’t even see my hand in front of my face. But I know this field well though. She’ll be in my sights soon enough.

I close my eyes, reach out with my senses, eyebrows raised, I stand, my breathing slowed almost into silence.

I hear a noise, a rustling. My eyes snap open and seeing a slight movement in the bushes, I make a beeline for it, no longer bothering about being quiet.

I scour the bushes for what I was looking for, tall, thin girl, long hair, nameless face etc etc.

And then I black-out, as a searing pain hits me in the back of the head.

* * * * *

I roll my sleeves up, tie up my boots.

We’re in a small room, a table and chair, only a candle for light.

It’s old and secluded. No other buildings for miles.

I have all my arsenal on the table to my right.

The door is locked, no escape.

Not for them anyway.

He’s tied up to a chair, unconscious.

Time to wake him up.

He’s going to wish he stayed asleep, when I’m done.

I reach for the adrenaline injection, and stride over. I place the knife on the table and inject the adrenaline into his neck. Not too strong though. Don’t want to kill him before I’ve ever started.

I sit on the table, legs crossed, knife in hand. Time to wait.

He comes to, all at once.

I press my mouth to his ear.

“You won’t leave this room alive unless you tell me everything.”

And he screams and screams.

*

“I won’t tell you a god-damn thing, you sick FREAK!”

I throw three knives, my eyes unblinking. They miss him by a centimetre.

“Next time they’ll be on center. And you’ll be dead.”

My knife is at his throat.

“Or maybe I should just kill you now.”

He’s sweating now, breathing heavily.

But he looks me in the eye, I’ll give him that.

His eye bulging, he whispers. “Go ahead.”

Quick as a leopard, I plunge the needle into his neck.

He screams and screams, attempting to remove his restraints.

I grin, staring and staring.

*

“What have you done with her?”

At least he’s finally talking.

“Oh, she’s fine.” I try to keep my voice menacing and high, just waiting for him to tip. It’s only a matter of time.

“It’s your daughter you should be worried about.”

The look on his face, it’s like he’d kill me with my bare hands if given the chance.

“You sick fucker.”

And then I shoot him with my gun, and stalk out, the blood silently creeping down the walls.

*

I’m in the bushes, a short distance from the house.

I see the car, the man, the knock on the door.

Even though they can’t see me, I crouch down to my heels, now completely covered.

Though I’m far away, I can still see the pain on her face as she is told the news… the news of her husband.

Such a shame…

I turn and run, leaving the corpse town dead in my wake.”

So that was entry, let me know in the comments what you thought of my FIRST ATTEMPT AT HORROR.
Answer this in the comments: Is it a good thing to be good at writing horror?
(Not that I'm saying I'm good, I'm not).
